The International
School of Stavanger (ISS), founded in 1966, is an independent,
private Pre-School -12 school accredited by the New England
Association of Colleges and Schools, and the Council of
International Schools (formerly ECIS). The school is
administered by a Director and governed by a Board of Trustees
comprised mostly of parents connected with the major oil
companies or NATO located here in Stavanger, Norway. ISS offers
an international university prep curriculum that combines the
best features of both the North American and European systems.
The class of 2007 numbers 36. Approximately 550 students attend
ISS with 166 enrolled in grades 9-12. Students represent
Algeria, Angola, Argentina, Australia, Azerbaijan, Belgium,
Canada, Chile, China, Colombia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt,
Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Iran, Italy,
Japan, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Lithuania, the Netherlands, New

TUITION
In 2006-2007, the yearly tuition was Norwegian Kroner (NOK) 136,000
for company payment. This will be revised for the 2007 - 2008 school
year at the first Board meeting in September.
In 2007- 2008, the yearly private tuition rate for
Kindergarten-grade 12 is NOK 52,000 for grades K-9; and NOK 75,000
for grades 10-12. There is typically a long waiting list for a
private pay place in the school. The tuition fee covers all books
and materials, and school bus transportation.
Pre-School tuition, for three- and four-year-olds, is NOK 23,300.

GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS
REGULAR ISS HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA
Twenty-two units are required for graduation:

INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) DIPLOMA
Candidates in grades 11 and 12 must pass six two-year courses (three
at higher level and three at standard level) with an external exam
score of 24+ to earn an IB Diploma. IB Diploma candidates are
required to select one course from each of the following subject
groups: Language A, Second Language, Individuals and Societies,
Experimental Sciences, Mathematics, and The Arts and Electives.
Additional IB Diploma requirements include successful completion of
the Theory of Knowledge, Extended Essay, and Creativity, Action and
Service components. The IB Program is also available to students
wishing to earn IB Certificates/Honors courses rather than the full
IB Diploma.

CLASS RANK AND GRADE POINT AVERAGE
Class rank is only used to determine the Valedictorian and the
Salutatorian. In order to be ranked, a student must have completed
at least three semesters of coursework at ISS. Cumulative grade
point averages are based on course grades earned in grades 9-12.
International Baccalaureate courses (designated IB on the
transcript) are weighted one point higher in the calculation of
class rank and grade point average.

TESTING PROGRAMS
Assessment tests administered in grades 9-12 include: PSAT/NMSQT,
SAT, ACT, ISA, International General Certificate of Secondary
Education (IGCSE) Exams, and International Baccalaureate (IB) Exams.

INTERNATIONAL GENERAL CERTIFICATE OF SECONDARY EDUCATION (IGCSE)
In May 2006 students at the International School of Stavanger took a
total of 95 IGCSE examinations. A grade A* to C was scored on 92% of
these examinations.
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE (IB) DIPLOMA PROGRAM
In May 2006 28 ISS graduating seniors earned the IB Diploma, an 88%
pass rate for those undertaking the full IB Diploma. In addition,
five graduating seniors earned in total 27 IB certificates. The 33
graduating students who sat IB exams in May 2006 earned the
following scores:

The IB is scored on a scale from 7 to 1, 7 being the highest score.
PLANS FOR THE GRADUATES OF 2007
The class of 2007 will graduate on June 7. Students from the
graduating class will attend universities in Australia, Canada, the
United States of America, the United Kingdom, Norway, and other
European countries.
